The Empty R Train

The Singapore Media has been flooded with pictures of trains and stations jam pack with commuters following the recent breakdown. Enough of that. Thought of contrasting that with a picture of NYC subway: A abnormally empty train. Uptown R from Whitehall at Canal Street. Our usual stop for Chinatown. Oh gees, I just realized that I have forgotten all the short cuts I used to remember in Chinatown. Slowly but surely, New York will fade from my memories.

I used to be super proud of our ‘never-broke-down-before’ MRTs in Singapore and complained about the constant weekend maintenance shut-down of specific New York subway lines. I guess I didn’t know what I was talking back then.

This picture was taken on a certain Sunday morning in 2009. (That probably explains the empty R train.)
